Brig Gen Tim C. Lawson

Deputy Commanding General for Operations, USASMDC/ARSTRAT

    BG Tim Lawson serves as the Deputy Commanding General for Operations at U.S Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT). In that capacity, he oversees all operations within USASMDC/ARSTRAT. BG Lawson provides oversight of plans, training, certification, and readiness for all USASMDC/ARSTRAT operational forces and select operating functions. This includes oversight of two brigades, an Army Astronaut Detachment, Satellite Communications System Expert, Joint Friendly Forces Tracking, radar support to Space and Intelligence Operations and the Operational Command Post when activated. BG Lawson has served in a variety of command and staff assignments, both in the continental United States and overseas.

    Most recently, he served as the Deputy Commander for Support, USASMDC/ARSTRAT from September 2016 to June 2017.

    Additional command assignments include: brigade commander for 100th Missile Defense Brigade, brigade commander, 32d Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Camp Williams, Wisconsin; Regional Police Advisory Commander, Regional Command West, Afghanistan (2009-2010); battalion commander, Recruiting and Retention Battalion, Wisconsin Army National Guard; battalion commander, 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment, 32d Infantry Brigade Combat Team; company commander, Echo Company, 201st Military Intelligence Battalion, 513th Military Intelligence Brigade where he deployed to Kuwait and Bahrain in support of United States Central Command (1996).

    Previous staff assignments include: Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations (DSCOPS/G3), Wisconsin Army National Guard; battalion executive officer, 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment, 32d Infantry Brigade Combat Team; operations officer, Recruiting and Retention Battalion, Wisconsin Army National Guard; brigade S2, 264th Engineer Group, Wisconsin Army National Guard; instructor, United States Armor Center, Fort Knox, Kentucky; operations officer, 297th Military Intelligence Battalion, 513th Military Intelligence Brigade, Fort Gordon, Georgia; battalion S1, 2nd Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

    His awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit (one bronze oak leaf cluster); the Bronze Star Medal (one bronze oak leaf cluster); the Meritorious Service Medal (three bronze oak leaf clusters); the Army Commendation Medal (one silver oak leaf cluster); the Army Achievement Medal (one oak leaf cluster); the Reserve Components Achievement Medal (one bronze oak leaf cluster); the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star; Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Campaign Stars; the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star; the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal; the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Gold Hourglass Device and “M” Device; the NATO ISAF Medal; the Saudi Arabian for The Liberation of Kuwait Medal; the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal; the Combat Infantry Badge; the Parachutist Badge, and the Basic Space Badge.

    BG Lawson holds a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College and an undergraduate in Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University.

    BG Lawson and his wife have two children.
